love poem – ice and fire

by Max Nelson on October 1, 2015

The moon is not so bright as you,
the sun perhaps no higher,
a moth a bouncing earnest fool
the butterfly a liar.
snakes stand heros in your glare;
dragons cower
bluebirds seem as gloomy things
owl a twittering sparrow
snow is warm compared to you
in your eyes I find my pyre,
for you are everything to me
you are my ice and fire.
